This is a plastic welding technique that corresponds to gas welding of metals, although the specific techniques differ.
Specially developed hot air blowers (hot air welders) generate a hot air jet that softens the parts to be joined and the plastic filler. The materials to be welded and the welding rod must be made of the same or a very similar plastic.
An exception to this rule is the welding of PVC to acrylic. Hot air / gas welding is a common manufacturing technique for making smaller items.
